Hey John,

Jeff here mate, good to see that you have made it to our forum and club, I knew that  there was a spot in here for you and your young fella.  I thought of you straight away when the question was asked about trials and thought this is our man. I am sure that pip will get some rocks and logs together maybe some pipes from rocla, so we can offer a style of riding that the public of Mackay has not seen in the flesh. And give you some where to ride and practice.

Hi guys,

Pip and mytself are in the process of securing some building materials for a trials area that we can build near the Humpy.  We are just a bit busy with getting the course up and running for the big race.  But rest asssured I'm on the case.

Well we have a 20″ and a 26″ to go at, so have a go on these and then you will have a better idea.

It is easier on a 20 if you have not done it before, but 26 is better for us old buggers.

Make a start by learning to balance with either foot forward, if you ride mountain bikes then no doubt you will be past this stage already.

20″ is called mod (modified bmx)

26″ is called Stock (mountain bike)

Then you have long, short, seat no seat disk, vee, or hydraulic brakes the list is endless but hell its fun when you get going.Confused

Hey all.

This is a picture of a project back home. this is the sort of thing that would work well. it is also in keeping with the area and not to ugly.

Do you reckon we could pull something like this off?

Hey,

Just joined up so I thought I had best introduce myself.

I am John and my lad is Robbie. we used to be big into trials back in England. Robbie used to ride for the French company Koxx, he then went onto ride for an English team called NSE, he was team mate to Ben Savage a once world champion. Robbie has won the British and UK championship 6 times since he was 6 years old. i was heavily involved with the running of Tyke Trial, a club aimed at trials, we ran many events and even ran a world round in my local town, I to ride but no where near as good as Robbie, more of a social rider and a laughing stock for the young ones.

Back to trials in Mackay, we would love to help if the club decides to make a course, it would not have to be hard as we all have a long way to go to world level, but belive me it will help you heaps with bike control and balance.

All you need is a bit of emagination, good brakes, and bloody big balls!!!!!!!

It could be set up with a few sleepers, pallets, cable drums, skips, concrete tubes, rocks it is endless, one mans rubbish is a trials riders fortune.

Anyway enough of my rambling allong, we will see you all there and please do give me a shout if i can help at all.

For thos of you who are interested, check out the following on you tube

Ben Savage

Sam Oliver

Danny McKaskill

Wayne Mohammet

and last but no way least Chris Akrigg ( this lad does it with no brakes)

It should Whet your appitite a little.

Enjoy.

Trials is SOOOO SICK !!  I wish I could do that stuff.  I could watch people do that all day and never tire.  Fully support the idea and will help establish a course(s).

There are a few little sick dudes in town on friday nights sometimes riding round the main drag pulling the odd trick 'n' stuff.  I have spoken to them before about a course, a couple of them are DHer's and the others are DJ/Trials riders so there is a small following in the area.  Of course there would be a lot more kids and adults interested in it if there was a designated course at the track, and if we get this 4X track happening and some dirt jumps/pump track happening…..you watch Rowallan will end up full of Mackay kids cutting sick, and the best thing is compared to XC,AM,FR and DH, a decent trials bike is relativley cheap.

I met out at the track with your son & mate the other week on a Monday I think…Smile

Hey Ian, I have a friend that came to the first meeting at the surf club, He and his son are from England and his son was three times national british champion for trials. He and his son are great friends with Martyn Ashton who is a trials icon I am sure that he will be interested in helping and riding some sections. They have proper trials bikes John rides a 24'' wheeled bike and his son rides a 20'' they have no seats they are the full monty I will give him a ring…

Good to see there are some trials riders in mackay! Is there many? I don't have a bike yet or ride trials at the moment but im thinking of building a bike. Thinking of getting an echo control (26″ wheel) frame and building around that.

This site gives a little info on stuff you can use for obstacles :http://www.trials-online.com/trials-explained-everythingelse.php

Pallets, cable spools, stairs, rocks and picnic tables seem to be the common obstacles.
